NCAD: Drawing and Visual Investigation

The Drawing and Visual Investigation (DVI) Certificate at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) built our foundation in extended drawing and mark making, inviting us to use pencil, charcoal, ink, monoprint, and more. At the heart of this course was developing a notebook practice. Everything was put in the notebook, and ideas and themes were step by step moved from concept to to actual drawings on the page via the process of mind mapping > identifying objects or images that embody parts of the mind map > drawing these objects or images as a way to process them. I still return to this process.

I discovered I have an affinity to charcoal and ink, and I use color as an accent. I always knew I love lines, and I still do.
